COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey today named Yale University freshman Helen Resor (Greenwich, Conn.) and Oakville Ice forward Kristin King (Piqua, Ohio) to the 2005 U.S. National Women's Team that will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in Linkoping and Norrkoping, Sweden, April 2-9. Resor and King join 18 players named to the team earlier this month.

The announcement was made by Ben Smith (Gloucester, Mass.), U.S. Women's National Team head coach; Ron DeGregorio (Salem, N.H), USA Hockey president; Doug Palazzari (Colorado Springs, Colo.), executive director of USA Hockey; Tony Rossi (Chicago, Ill.), USA Hockey vice president and International Council chairperson; and Art Berglund (Colorado Springs, Colo.), senior director of international administration for USA Hockey.

Resor joins the team from Yale University, where she recently completed her freshman season with 18 points (7-11) in 24 games and earned a spot on U.S. College Hockey Online's Rookie Team. Her 0.75 points per game ranked ninth in the NCAA among defensemen and she was third among Ivy League freshmen in total points, despite missing the first eight games of the season. The Noble and Greenough High School (Mass.) graduate (2004) will be making her first appearance at an IIHF event, after playing with the U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team in the annual series against Canada last summer.

"Helen is an up-and-coming defenseman who has worked her way onto the National Team with strong, aggressive play," said Smith.

A member of the silver-medal-winning 2004 Women's World Championship team, King will compete in her second IIHF event in April. The Dartmouth College alumnus (1998-02) recorded two assists in five games in her first World Championship appearance last year and also played for Team USA at the 2003 Women's Four Nations Cup. She joins Team USA from the Oakville Ice of the National Women's Hockey League where she recently completed her third NWHL season with 15 points (9-6) in 30 games.

"Kristin is a speedy forward who can play center or wing," Smith said. "She's going to be an asset as a returning veteran from last year's World Championship team."

Team USA will open the 2005 Women's World Championship against China on Sunday, April 3, in Norrkoping, and will also face Germany and Finland in preliminary play. The medal games will be played on Saturday, April 9.
