The U.S. and Canada met yesterday, Aug. 21, in the first game of the 2014 Under-18 Series. In a closely fought game, Canada defeated the U.S. by a score of 3-2. Brittany Bugalski was stellar in net, stopping several good scoring chances throughout the game and 28 shots overall. Thirteen players made their Team USA debut.
The 2014 Women’s Under-18 series is the eighth time these two countries have competed in this event. Team USA holds a 8-1-3-10 record against Canada overall. The U.S. has been outscored by Canada by a total of 66-57.
Joel Johnson, is the head coach of the U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team and is assisted by Katie Lachapelle and Brent Hill. Jincy Dunne is serving as team captain and the alternate captain is Samantha Davis.
Members of Team USA represent 13 different states. Minnesota leads the pack with seven representatives, Massachusetts has three and Illinois has two. California, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin each have one.
