GAMEDAY: Team USA Faces Canada in Gold Medal Game

Today is the second meeting between the U.S. and Canada at the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship. The U.S., the defending world champion, opened the event with a 4-2 win over Canada on March 28.

Today’s game will take place at 10 a.m. ET (4 p.m. local) at the Malmo Isstadion in Malmo, Sweden. The game will be televised and streamed in the United States on Universal Sports. Follow the updates on Twitter @USAHockeyScores and join the conversation by using hashtag #WWC2015.

The U.S. has played Canada in the gold medal game in all 15 of the previous events, capturing the event’s top prize now a total of five times (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013), including four of the last five tournaments and five of the last seven. Team USA is 62-2-6-8-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) in 79 career games and has outscored their opponents 535-123.

In IIHF Women’s World Championship play, Canada holds the 8-5-2-7-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) advantage in 22 games. The teams have played to overtime on seven occasions, three of which resulted in a shootout. Sixteen of the 22 games have been decided by two goals or less, while 11 have been one-goal games

Through the first four games of the tournament, Team USA has outscored their opponents, 30-6. Team USA players are among the best in the tournament and are near or on top of the ranking in all offensive categories. These are Team USA's leaders.
